Tage Alter Musik am Bodensee 2016

Festival for Early Music

06-08|10|2016

Welcome

Dear festival visitors, dear members of the Alte Musik am Bodensee e.V., dear sponsors and supporters!

We are very happy to welcome you to the first edition of the Tage Alter Musik am Bodensee.

In 2016 we are commemorating the 200th anniversary of the death of the harpist, composer and Renaissance man Meingosus Gaelle (1752 – 1816) in his native Tettnang. In his honor, his instrument of choice – the harp – is put at the focus of this year’s edition of the festival: We will present this elegant and almost mythic instrument in several concerts, a lecture recital and our youth program, in which we will explore the history of the instrument and its roots in the Lake of Constance region.

In the transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age the Lake of Constance region developed into an important crossroads of transalpine merchant routes and was simultaneously regarded as a melting pot of European cultural and musical traditions. Until today this spirit is present in this extraordinary region, that – bordering four countries –  has a unique creative potential which it exemplifies vividly with their active cultural engagement.

We are grateful to be able to anchor this project right there, at the Lake of Constance, and would like to say at this point a warm thank you to all the initiatives and open doors in the region that have helped us realizing our idea.

We are excited to be able to present great names already during the first edition of the festival, but at the same time it is important to us to open the stage to young musicians in order to make Early Music perceived in contemporary way. In historical venues – in a familiar environment and at the same time cosmopolitan -, this exciting music steps out of the shadow of music history – revived with new energy.

We are looking forward to three successful festival days and to your visit!
